Mouse double-clicking: build a controlled comparison

Separate a fast pair of browser events from an unexpected extra physical click. Keep the conditions with the result.

Establish your baseline

Reset the double-click test. Make 20 deliberate single presses, leaving roughly one second between them. Count your physical presses yourself; the browser cannot know your intention. Note whether the event count matches. The interval chart helps locate an unexpected pair, but intentional rapid clicking creates the same pattern.

Repeat without changing the rules

Save the baseline in the Device Lab with a label such as “USB port A, 20 slow presses”. Repeat the same number and pace. Keep the short-interval threshold unchanged. Two different thresholds produce different short-interval counts from the same input; they are not directly comparable as evidence of improvement.

Change one part of the input path

Compare another port or wired mode if your mouse supports it. Then compare the same mouse on a second computer, or another mouse on this computer. Record remapping and accessibility settings rather than changing several at once. Browser counts alone cannot distinguish switch contacts, firmware, software and an intentional second press.

Decide what to document

A repeatable mismatch between deliberate presses and received events is useful evidence for support. Export both reports and include the steps and conditions. Check the manufacturer’s instructions before firmware or debounce changes. The report does not measure electrical switch bounce and does not establish warranty eligibility.
